A Partnership with Hope
Hope ’08 was significant in uniting churches but one of its challenges was to link with the ethnic group churches and the black majority church in the UK. That’s why I was thrilled when SAF wanted to partner with Hope going forward to 2014 , working together through words and actions. When we can embrace our diversity but focus our unity on the purposes of Christ and his mission, there God blesses as found in Psalm 133 and John 17. It is when we see the big picture of the Kingdom of God, that we are part of the same family, that God blesses communities.

Prayer Points
South Asian Forum is committed to prayer, and we would be delighted if you could pray with us. Please pray for the evangelistic booklet 'Jesus through Asian eyes' - particularly that churches are encouraged to use it and that we are successful in the training we give to churches on how to reach out to South Asians. We also ask you to pray for our partnership with Jewels in His Crown in the delivery of training events across the country to help galvanise and equip churches for mission to South Asians.

Pakistan Briefing - CSW
The assassinations of two prominent politicians within the first three months of 2011 for their opposition of the country’s ‘blasphemy laws’ have catapulted some of Pakistan’s primary religious freedom issues into the public consciousness, in a context relevant to Pakistanis of all faiths. The deaths of Salmaan Taseer, Governor of Punjab, and Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, are symptomatic of growing division and lawlessness in Pakistan, as well as being symbolic of the silencing of voices seeking to confront extremism.

India briefing CSW
“Communal violence is not inevitable; it not the norm in a maturing democracy, an economic and political superpower, and a caring multi-cultural society such as India wants to be in the 21st century.” says Dr John Dayal, member of Communal & Sectarian Violence Bill Advisory Group. This briefing is concerned principally with recent trends of communal violence against Christians, the factors which underlie this, the state responses to such violence, and ongoing violations of religious freedom in law.

Minority takes on might of an old empire
On Saturday 2 July the British Pakistani Christian Association hosted its third annual peaceful demonstration in London calling on the UK government to press its Pakistani counterpart into changing its blasphemy laws. The BPCA says Pakistan's harsh blasphemy laws have been used as a tool for oppression and an opportunity to settle personal vendettas between tribes and families. They're asking that the laws are revised so that they can better protect people of all faiths and in particular those of minority religious groups such as Christians. In the first protest of its kind, Britain's Pakistanis enlisted support from leaders of Britain's Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish communities.

UN experts: ’40,000 civilians’ massacred in Sri Lanka
Up to 40,000 civilians were massacred during the final stages of the Sri Lankan government's offensive against the separatist group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), according to a UN Panel of Experts, set up by UN Secretary-General last June, who have stated they have credible information to believe the information. "Shelling of safety zones, bombing of hospitals and summary executions by the government forces" and "forcibly conscripting and using civilians as human buffer by the Tamil Tigers" are some of the gruesome but credible allegations, states the report, after analysing...
