Who's who in the Alliance - Department Heads

Head of Communiations: Miles Giljam

Miles Giljam has worked in the field of communications for the Anglican Church in Southern Africa and more recently in public affairs and communications for the Royal Commonwealth Society, based in London.

Growing up during the transition from Apartheid to democracy in South Africa he has personally experienced the miracle of reconciliation and considers bringing people together as a calling. Miles is particularly passionate about church unity. His ecumenical work has included involvement in the South African Christian Leadership Assembly (SACLA), the Global Day of Prayer and the Lausanne movement. Miles has an unhealthy interest in politics and international relations, concentrating on African affairs.

Miles is a graduate of the University of Cape Town (BSc Hons) and the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (MA Communications). He is a member of the UK board of African Enterprise.

Head of Public Affairs: Don Horrocks

Don Horrocks, Head of Public Affairs,spent 25 years in business in corporate banking and management consultancy. Completed a theological PhD at London Bible College in 2001 and headed up the Evangelical Alliance's Policy Commission for 3 years.

Don was appointed Head of Public Affairs for the Alliance in September 2001. He has edited books on transsexuality and GM crops and foods. A Research Fellow at London Bible College, Don is married with 3 children.

Senior Information and Research Officer: Kim Walker

Kim Walker Senior Information and Research Officer spent 20 years working in public library management before joining the Alliance. Kim has a joint degree in Librarianship and Media Studies and is a chartered member of Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

Kim provides an enquiry service for members and non-members, does research for Evangelical Alliance staff, compiles summaries of recent polls and surveys and writes resource guides on a variety of topics of interest to members and these are available in the resources section of this website.

Kim lives on the South Coast with her husband, teenage daughter and ageing cat.

Senior Press Officer: Charis Gibson

Charis Gibson has a degree in media studies from the University of Ulster and a postgraduate diploma in newspaper journalism from De Montfort University. She previously worked as a reporter on the Coleraine Chronicle, Basingstoke Gazette and Daily Echo, Bournemouth, with a variety of experience from crime reporting to campaigns and features.

Her role includes devising media strategy, liasing with the media and writing. She works closely with the General Director and the Director of Public Policy.
