How your church can use Disney's Queen of Katwe

Disney's new film, Queen of Katwe, is the tale of little girl born into a Ugandan slum.

Phiona Mutesi, played by Madina Nalwanga, overcame countless obstacles to become a champion chess player, a journey steered by Robert Katende - the incredible David Oyelowo - a football player now working in Christian ministry.

The film tells the true story of how Phiona found the confidence and determination she needed to pursue her dream.

It's impossible to walk out of the cinema without feeling inspired.

Chine McDonald, director of communications and membership at the Evangelical Alliance, features in a promotional video for the film.

She said: "I absolutely love this film.

"I love that it showed life. I love that it showed food and colour and dancing. I think it's important for us to have these different images of Africa."

Your church can engage with the film, thanks to Ethos Media and their free resources released to discuss the important issues that this film raises around releasing women's potential and the power of potential.
