Online evangelism service launched

As the world becomes increasingly virtual, Christians are having to become more innovative in the way they interact with the world.

A new evangelism service is hoping to help people come to faith online via a new website, which launched in the UK this week.

Groundwire, an Alliance member, offers anyone looking for answers to their questions about faith and life the opportunity to chat online with one of its network of spiritual coaches.

The site has already been pioneered successfully in the US and now it is aiming to reach the large number of people who are interested in spiritual matters but who might not necessarily be ready to go to a church or come to a traditional meeting.

Chatting online provides an initial place for their questions to be answered in a secure environment before they make a commitment.

Matt Rich, who heads up Groundwire in the UK, is asking Christians to offer their help by volunteering as a spiritual coach or encouraging non-Christians they know to visit the website.

“We want to connect with the spirituality lost in the way many are most comfortable with, online at any time of the day or night,” he said. “Here they can share their questions, doubts and fears about Christianity – and are pointed towards some answers.

“Spiritual coaches have led many people to Christ, have counselled Christians dealing with secret sins and have brought hope to those on the verge of suicide.

“The emphasis is on evangelism rather than counselling, although we are happy to provide pastoral advice or to refer people to specialist agencies if they wish.”

All the spiritual coaches have to take part in rigorous training before they are allowed online.
