Welcome to the Forum for Change Arts cluster

Over the next few months we aim to update this site with articles and resources to equip all those working within the Arts sector with a heart for transformation.

"The days of criticising the church for stifling creative people are over – it's no longer a valid excuse. There is so much good stuff emerging both inside the body of Christ and in mainstream culture. Let's plug in to what God is doing right now and work together. For what it's worth, my phrase of the month is 'can we collaborate?'. "

Jeremy Higham, Cornerstone Films

"We are creative beings, with God given gifts from a creator God. Its no wonder that Christians have been amongst the greatest benefactors and creators in the arts: from frescoes to paintings, buildings to theatre, film to sculpture. The generations before us could see the power of these to communicate with to their age and culture. The question is: what will our legacy be?"

Visual creativity is valued in the Bible as an important aspect of human flourishing. By the use of examples, this paper suggests several ways of looking at painting and concludes that it has immense value, both as an aspect of the proper enjoyment of creation, and as a means of communication from and with the surrounding culture.

The window is closed: engaging with early to mid-twentieth-century painting
A paper taking up the story of Western art from the end of the nineteenth century, exploring the move from realism and representation towards abstraction, the cultural influences on this move, and the purposes which this new art may pursue.

Engaging with cinema
The relationship between church and cinema has often been one of mutual suspicion. Hollywood has flouted Christian values; Christians have responded with condemnation and censorship.
