In 2000 Governments promised to fulfil the Millennium Development Goals to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger by 2015.
2007 marks the half way point for meeting those goals and Christians are being urged to Blow the Whistle at half time to ensure that the UK Government honours its promises and actively encourages other global leaders to effect change in their own countries.
Blow the Whistle was launched in March by Micah Challenge UK, a movement of churches and Christian agencies who are uniting to hold governments to account. The campaign is focussing on five key areas - HIV/AIDS treatment, water and sanitation, climate chaos, trade justice and primary education.
How to get involved:
Send postcards and write letters to the Government, calling on MPs to fulfil their promises.
On 2 June, join the Blow the Whistle Worship Service at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, at 11.30 (doors open 11.00). Then literally Blow the Whistle during 'The World Can't Wait' rally on the banks of the River Thames from 2.00.
Early Bird tickets for the Worship Service on 2 June are available from the Micah Challenge website, www.micahchallenge.org.uk(opens in a new window).
Whistles, DVDs, postcards, a letter writing guide and a host of other resources are also available from the website.
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
