Can you picture...
- a society where Christians of all denominations across our nation are passionate about alleviating the injustice of poverty – and are willing to do something about it.
- a time when Christians across our nation, speak out in unity and with influence to our government.
- a time when non-Christians want to join us because of the truth, justice and authenticity of our actions.
- Christians around the world uniting in a global movement to reduce poverty
Churches, organisations and key leaders are uniting to give momentum to The Micah Challenge. This global movement aims to ignite and fuel a passion in Christians to bring about the alleviation of poverty and to speak out, with a common voice, against the injustice of poverty.
The Evangelical Alliance is fully committed to Micah Challenge UK and it forms one of our key strategic thrusts for the years ahead.
Inspired by the prophet Micah's words, "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God", Micah Challenge UK's efforts in 2007 will centre on Blow the Whistle. The message of Blow the Whistle focuses on the fact that 2007 is halfway to meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger by 2015. In the year 2000 the UK and other world leaders made a commitment to achieving these goals and through blowing the whistle at half-time, we are urging the government to play its part, holding it to account and saying we care about the poor and want to see justice done for them.
As Christians we too can do our part to stand up, speak out and pray hard that justice is done for the world’s poor and to get involved with this movement.
