Scotland... in focus

Signing 'How they love one another'
It's been a busy few months for the Evangelical Alliance in Scotland.
"We are taking very seriously the vision of uniting the church to transform the nation", says Fred Drummond, the National Director.
Uniting the church
Fred was one of ten signatories to a leaflet entitled "How they love one another", in an attempt to address the issues of sectarianism and bigotry which are still found in parts of Glasgow. Other signatories included Archbishop Mario Conti and Most Reverend Idris Jones.
In March there was an 'abolition night' in Perth to commemorate the abolition of the Slave Trade Act which was attended by over 200 people.
In May Joel Edwards, the Alliance's General Director, spoke on the floor of the Church of Scotland Assembly and made a real impact. On the same night, along with TearFund and Forward Together, there was an open evening where Joel spoke on Grace and Truth and the "Stop the Traffic" campaign was promoted - Listen to this event.
Transforming the Nation
Recently Fred had the pleasure of being the main speaker at a thanksgiving service for the Bethany Christian Trust which works with the homeless and marginalised in Edinburgh. "It is an important work and I was glad to encourage them".
Fred also spoke at a compassion ministries night in Aberdeen hosted by the Aberdeen City Mission.
At the end of June Alistair Stevenson will start as the new Public Affairs Officer in Scotland and will be encouraging Christians to engage with issues that impact the wider community.
Fred has also become a member of the Scottish board of UCCF and UK board of YFC as well as being part of Mission Scotland.
Some projects we're working on
Finally
Many churches in Scotland, and elsewhere, have been wrestling with issues about leadership and discipleship in a culture that is becoming post-Christian. In response to these issues Fred has written a book encouraging debate on the way forward for the Church called "All That Jazz" - available from all good Christian booksellers.
