Workshops
Law and Grace - Doug Mullen (Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP)
This interactive seminar will look at how our values as Christians are often mirrored in employment law but also explore the opportunities for bringing Christian values such as fairness, reconciliation and mercy into our procedures. It aims to encourage us to see aspects of employment law as an outworking of our values and to help us to integrate our faith into the way that we deal with people.
Spirituality in a Christian Organisation - Benjamin Downing (Learning and Development Manager, World Vision UK)
How do we integrate our faith and work? - What does Christian spirituality look like in the workplace of the Christian organisation? - How can a Christian organisation create an environment where people's faith can change and develop as part of a work community?
This seminar will give the opportunity to hear the experience of one organisation; how they chose to do things differently. You'll hear what impact it made, the improvement and plenty of learning!
Come and enjoy a chance to think through issues in your own work context with interactive discussions and learning from one another. There will be time to identify the possibilities that can arise as we live out what we believe in a working environment.
TUPE or not TUPE? - that is often a difficult question - Derek Duke (Birmingham City Mission)
When is TUPE applicable? - Is there a right and wrong way of tackling the issues that arise? - Can a TUPE arrangement be good for an organisation? - Who should be involved, informed and when? - Resolving conflict and disagreements: who is responsible? - What happens to contracts of employment? - Is it ethical?
Derek will offer some different approaches this subject from his first-hand experience.
"Thy Stranger That Is Within Thy Gates" Deut 31:12 (AV) - William Fleming
A brief presentation of the current immigration and employment issues for churches, Christian charities, and theological colleges including any known or proposed changes that are in the public domain. This will be of interest to HR professionals and anyone who may offer employment, study opportunities or voluntary work to, especially, those from overseas.
Although there will be opportunities for questions during the workshop, you may find it helpful to pose your questions in advance so that they may be given as full an answer as possible. Please submit your questions by email to Patti on hrnetwork@eauk.org before 25 September. The workshop will be run by William Fleming, a church leader who has also had a working life timeof experience of immigration and related employment issues.
