Hope UK gives festival-goers ‘drunken’ experience to challenge binge drinking
By getting passers by to try out 'beer goggles' which simulate the feeling of being drunk, a drug prevention charity is taking their message in a creative way to the streets of London in order to raise awareness about the negative effects of binge drinking.
As part of Pentecost Festival for the last two years, Evangelical Alliance member Hope UK has set up gazebos at Leicester Square,
Soho, Victoria Embankment Gardens and Cantelowes Garden. Volunteer Drug Educators and staff offer participants the opportunity to experience the visual effects of drunkenness by donning beer goggles and walking a white line or building a tower with bricks. This is accompanied by other alcohol awareness activity and information in a bid to challenge the UK's binge drinking culture.
Pentecost Festival, which takes place over Pentecost each year in central London, is organised by Share Jesus International. The Festival is an annual collaborative celebration of the Christian faith involving many organisations, charities, churches and individuals, which aims to bring the church out of the building and onto the streets of central London.
Hope UK will be participating again this year in the Pentecost Festival, which is taking place 18-23 May.
