The Bible teaches both principles and practical wisdom relating to financial capability

Jubilee Centre

For more than 25 years, the Jubilee Centre has been asking whether there is a Christian-based alternative to capitalism, whether Christianity has anything distinctive to say about public policy beyond general goals such as stewardship and justice. It believes the Bible contains a wealth of insight regarding social, political and economic life. Of particular importance for unlocking its internal logic is Jesus' summary of the law and the prophets in terms of love (Matthew 22:34-40), or, right relationships.

Its research into debt resulted in the launch of Credit Action, to educate local churches and wider society in biblical and practical principles of handling money, and of Citylife, to encourage citizens and corporations to invest in local regeneration and employment programmes through zero-interest bonds. Its publications include "Families in Debt" and "Credit & Debt: Sorting it out" and its quarterly research papers include titles such as "The divine economy", "Investing as a Christian: reaping where you have not sown?" and "The ban on interest: dead letter or radical solution?"

The Jubilee Centre's vision is for a movement of organisations, churches and individual Christians to advance a coherent and positively-stated biblical social agenda that is of benefit to the whole of society.
