The Bible teaches that money is the servant of the community and that usury - making money by charging unjust rates of interest - is contrary to God's will

Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats have been calling for action to address today’s “buy now, pay later” culture for years. Today the UK is facing plummeting house prices, falling growth, rising inflation and rising unemployment. Huge levels of personal debt have made us particularly vulnerable and people are struggling even more with spiraling debts, rising food and energy bills and unaffordable mortgages.

The Liberal Democrats want to offer support to the millions of families trying to makes ends meet.  We have pledged to tackle the root causes of spiraling debt by setting up a genuinely independent financial advice network that will help people to take charge of their financial situations before they get into hardship. We believe that it is vital that people are taught personal responsibility over their finances from a young age, and would include financial education for pupils in the national curriculum. Adequate health warnings must be given by companies promoting credit ‘deals’, and we would clamp down on hidden charges in credit and store cards.
