Money? Let's Talk: an Alliance seminar on debt
The Alliance is holding a debt seminar entitled Money? Let's Talk on Saturday 30 May as part of Pentecost Festival.
What is the response of the church to the economic situation we are in? What does the bible tell us about money and handling debt? How can your church and/or evangelism team reach out to the community in such a time as this? These are just some of the issues that this event is geared to look at.
Session One - Church, Money and Taboo?
This will give scriptural basis on why and how to break the taboos of money in the church, getting past the sensitivities that can surround talking about money in church, such as prosperity or frugality.
Session Two - Credit Crunch Action
An interactive discussion on how churches can help those struggling with money. It provides churches with a proactive response to the current financial climate in their communities. It creates a powerful evangelistic tool by fulfilling a practical need to demonstrate the love of Christ.
Speakers include Chris Tapp, Director of Credit Action and John Preston, National Stewardship and Resources Officer for the Church of England. This event aims to enlighten, encourage and equip attendees to teach on and support others in the area of money management.
It is a free event but spaces are limited so please let us know that you are coming by using our booking form.
Life Beyond Debt is the Evangelical Alliance's response to the current economic crisis. We firmly believe that the Bible is outspoken on issues of poverty and injustice and we want to encourage churches to be equally vocal. With their national networks and local presence, the church is uniquely positioned to help people who are in debt, have lost their jobs or are otherwise struggling with their finances. By combining the conviction that motivates our action with the resources and organisations already established, the church can develop its engagement to bring vital aid to those who are in the greatest need.
Throughout the year our web-resource, Life Beyond Debt, will look at different themes coming out of this crisis, from what the church teaches about money, to what the Christian faith has to say about the way our economic system is structured.
There are countless ways in which churches can engage in their communities and hopefully you will find the resources on the campaign site a useful stepping stone. If you have resources which you think would be helpful for other churches to use, or look at, please let us know.
