Evangelical Alliance join Christian Solidarity Worldwide in encouraging Christians around the world to stand in prayer and solidarity for Burma.
28 September 2007
Burma has recently come to the forefront of concern internationally as the papers splash headlines this week of the military rule’s violent crackdown on peaceful protests. Peaceful protestors have been killed, injured and attacked and activists have been detained.
Evangelical Alliance member, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), has been tirelessly campaigning on this issue for many months and produced a report entitled Carrying the Cross, in January, highlighting the regime’s restriction, discrimination and persecution against Christians.
CSW has condemned the crackdown against protestors in Burma and called on the international community to take urgent action to bring change to Burma.
The Evangelical Alliance join CSW in encouraging Christians around the world to stand in prayer and solidarity for Burma. CSW kindly provided prayer points for Parliamentary Questions, our monthly publication and these are set out below:
Pray for…
• An end to the military regime’s attacks on ethnic minorities and the continuing violations of human rights, including the use of rape, forced labour, torture, human minesweepers, the forcible conscription of child soldiers, religious persecution, the destruction of villages, crops and livestock, the displacement of civilians and extra-judicial killings;
• The release of democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, in her 12th year of house arrest, and all those who have been detained.
• Action by the international community, including the British Government. The situation in Burma should be addressed as a matter of urgency by the UN Security Council and the European Union, and pressure be put on China, India and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to use their influence with the regime in Burma.
• Pray that the democracy movement in Burma will be strengthened and that justice, peace and freedom will prevail.
