Re-designed Evangelical Alliance Website

Press Release

Aims to be essential port of call for enquirers on evangelical issues in the UK

27 January 2006

The Evangelical Alliance today launched a re-designed website that houses over 500 articles, press releases and information on issues ranging from ‘what is an evangelical?’ to ‘how to combat gambling in your area’. The new site www.eauk.org is fully accessible to blind and disabled users and aims, over the coming months, to become a critical point of reference for web-based information on evangelical issues in the UK.

As well as articles of theological and ethical concern, the new site includes all recent Alliance press releases, network opportunities for Christians, details of upcoming events, publications and resources, as well as links to relevant member organisations and a sophisticated search engine. The site also features the ever popular Leaders-digest.com. This bi-monthly online resource for Christian leaders can be accessed instantly following registration.

Mike Morris, Executive Director of the Evangelical Alliance, said, “The refreshed layout makes it easy for anyone to stay up to date on topical issues such as the Racial and Religious Hatred legislation and the Assisted Dying and Equality Bills currently making their way through Parliament. Over 20,000 people already visit the Alliance website each month and they, and new users, will be able to check for job vacancies, join or renew their membership and, in the future, download the latest editions of the Alliance’s flagship publication idea.”

The new front page also introduces cyber visitors to the Alliance’s Alltogether initiative. Alltogether is a new way of working that enshrines the concept that Christians can achieve more if they work together than if they work separately. For example, organisations working together can commit greater resources to challenging world poverty. It also ensures greater sustainability over a long period of time.

Mike Morris added, “The Alliance is well-placed to provide an accessible platform from which to tell these Alltogether stories, and to encourage Christians both individually, and in their organisations to consider replicating simple methods of good practice already pioneered, but perhaps well-hidden from public view.”

Notes to editors:

Alltogether
1 Alltogether represents a way of working, and will encourage evangelicals to unite on projects and initiatives, replicating best practice rather than re-inventing the wheel. The Alliance is also able to tell the stories of what others are doing; we can all learn good practice and be encouraged to do similar things.

2 Sometimes initiatives will be driven by the Alliance. On other occasions, member organisations are encouraged to bring their ideas about how Christians can work together.

3 Alltogether isn’t a resource. So it won’t be possible to phone up and find a list of all churches in a particular area who might want to explore doing youth work, for example. But our information team will be able to put people in touch with youth work organisations who are members.

4 The Evangelical Alliance is the largest evangelical body in the UK, bringing together over 1 million Christians. It is uniquely placed to help evangelicals both at a church and organisational level, work together. In doing this they will achieve more together than they will apart.

5 The Evangelical Alliance is not changing its name.

The Evangelical Alliance UK, formed in 1846, is an umbrella group representing over one million evangelical Christians in the UK and is made up of member churches, organisations and individuals. As part of a ‘movement for change’, the Alliance promotes unity and truth, acts as an evangelical voice to the state, society and the wider Church, and provides resources to help members and other evangelicals live out their faith in their communities.
