Think Friday 15 Hustings and Interns

Hustings is a great old English word used to describe pre-election debates. We hosted a hustings for the hotly contested East Belfast seat on Monday past – you can read what the Belfast Telegraph had to say here.

We are involved in five more hustings with our friends at CARE and encourage you to come along and hear from the candidates and even ask a question.

Over the last three years we have run a very successful internship programme which really increases our capacity as an organisation. We are looking for two or three interns to join us from September to June. It is a great opportunity to gain experience in policy, research, media and Church engagement. You can find out more information here. Please spread the word to help us develop more public leaders here in Northern Ireland.

Finally, a quick update on potential changes to abortion law here in Northern Ireland. We opposed the change in the law on a number of grounds and the vast majority (77%) of responses to the consultation opposed any change in the law. However the Justice Minister has indicated that he is determined to press ahead with a change in the law in relation to 'lethal fatal abnormality'. You can read more here and we will keep you updated about these worrying developments.
