Migration

Many Christians are acutely aware of God's call to love their neighbours, and are dedicated to helping, supporting and loving people who were once strangers to them.

Ilhaq (Billy) Masih, a doctor who came here from Pakistan in 2001 after witnessing a massacre of Christians in which his mother was injured, commended the kindness of the hospital chaplain who helped his mother and the minister and congregation of St Bride’s Church, Old Trafford, Manchester, who supported him.

He said, "When I first arrived I wanted somebody's shoulder to cry on, someone with whom I could share my thoughts. I think if the church had not accepted me…"

What he left unsaid sums up what churches across the country do each day to help new migrants settle in Britain, whether for a short time or forever.

This site tells some of these churches' stories, and the stories of those who have found their friendship life-changing as they try to make a home for themselves in a strange land.

We hope these stories will inspire you into action. A great first step is to try and get to know if migrants live in your area and invite them into your home for a meal and extend friendship to them. Take the opportunity to show hospitality to your migrant neighbours and help them feel more at home in this country.

We are on the lookout for your stories, ideas and insights, and would also like to use this website to highlight your events relating to issues around migration. If you have moved to the UK send us your story, or if your church or organisation is serving the migrant community tell us about your resources or is hosting an event that you would like us to feature, please inform us of the event details.
