In the third world it is not the 'reality of trusting in God' that people experience, but the desperation that makes people wish some sort of benevolent super-being exists.

As for 'radical' Christian living, I think I've heard that so many times over the years that I've lost count. If anything constructive does get done about rising unemployment (and it's a big 'if'), it will more probably be legislation you can thank. Still, just as when the Berlin Wall came down, there will be no shortage of Christians claiming they did it themselves.

Money isn't everything but it's useful when you want to buy something!

The credit crunch is certainly alarming, but good may come from it if it reminds many of us of our dependence on God.

Proverbs 30 says "..give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, "Who is the Lord?" Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonour the name of my God", which seems like a very sensible sort of prayer!

Btw, Carole, I'm a prison chaplain too. Hello!

Yup, brilliant. It's time we all took up this challenge, myself included. Thank you.

Susannah - I am preaching about this in my Harvest Service on Sunday. Additionally, I work as a prison chaplain and as part of the drug withdrawal course, men learn that addiction is summed up as something we think we need or that we desire and they eventually learn that we do not have to give in to either perceived need or desire. I think that can be stretched to include the designer clothing, friends, cars and homes and are the modern day equivalent of the prodigal son...

Thanks so much for FNT

God bless you in this ministry
