FAQs

How do I find a church abroad?

  • For English-speaking churches you can look through the Intercontinental Church Society's online listing or contact ICS. Note that not all churches listed are evangelical.
  • The Alpha International website lists churches abroad running the Alpha Course or gives the contact details for the national Alpha office. Many of the churches listed will be English-speaking.
  • The national alliance or fellowship may be able to give you some information. All existing websites for national evangelical alliances should be accessible through the World Evangelical Alliance.
  • Contacting UK-based mission organisations with workers in the country you'll be visiting may be another route. OSCAR, the UK information service for world mission should be able to help.

I'm moving - how do I find a church in my new town?

  • There are over 3,000 Evangelical Alliance member churches throughout the UK. You can use our Church Search to find one near to you.
  • Another way of finding a friendly evangelical church is using the listing of churches running the Alpha Course in the UK.
  • The most comprehensive listing of churches in the UK is www.findachurch.co.uk, including churches from all denominations and styles. This directory relies on each church supplying its own details and often lists only the address without contact details.

Where can I find sample equal opportunities, health & safety and child protection policies for my church or organisation?

  • Visit the Alliance’s HR Network pages where you can download sample induction, health and safety, equal opportunities and data protection policies.
  • Contact  Congregational & General Insurance  who produce the ‘Safer Places of worship’ CD ROM containing help and advice on church security including crime prevention, fire and arson precautions, as well as general precautions and personal safety.  Available free to policy holders or £10 including postage.
  • Contact the Churches' Child Protection Advisory Service for sample policies; advice; training; criminal records bureau checking and all other matters relating to child protection.
  • Contact Christian Camping International who produce a range of Key Resource Sheets including safety and liability, catering, child protection designed for those involved in youthwork and Christian camps, holiday and outdoor centre ministry.
