Global Day of Prayer - London
An Invitation to a Civic and Church Leaders' Reception in the Banqueting Suite at Millwall Football Club
Pentecost Sunday 11th May 2008 at 2.00pm
As Pentecost Sunday approaches I am becoming increasingly excited about the prospect of up to 25,000 Christians coming together to pray for our city. Our vision for the Global Day of Prayer London is Prayer, Unity and Transformation. Following last year's event at West Ham when 20,000 people gathered, the setting for this year's event is Millwall in South East London. I truly believe that this will be a significant day for London, the Church, the community and for this stadium.
So it is with great pleasure that I invite you to join other civic and church leaders for a reception at Millwall Football Club at 2.00 pm on 11th May. We want to share with you the vision that brought us together to plan this event and our journey over these next years to Wembley. I am sure you will be as encouraged as I am about the prospect of many cultures and traditions coming together to pray in unity. Something is stirring in the Church in London today - something we have only glimpsed thus far. At Pentecost this year, we will join millions of Christians in over 200 countries across the globe in prayer for our world. Come and have a foretaste of Heaven as we cry out in one chorus; Lord may your Kingdom come.on Earth as in Heaven.
'there before me was a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb'
I hope you will be able to join us.
The Rt Revd David Hawkins
Bishop of Barking
Chair of Global Day of Prayer London
