Two of the most deservedly famous examples of Evangelical Christians who have brought about far reaching social, moral and political change are William Wilberforce (1759-1833), and Anthony Ashley-Cooper, Earl of Shaftesbury (1881-85). Wilberforce’s greatest achievement was the abolition of the slave trade in British ships, a measure enacted by Parliament in 1807, after nearly 20 years of campaigning.

A recent MORI survey showed 91% of the British public trusting doctors to tell the truth, compared with 87% for teachers, 74% for professors and 72% for judges.
