| Evangelicalism - 'The Evangelical Alliance: A Brief History' by David Hilborn and Ian Randall 28 Jul 2006 A summary of the official history of the Evangelical Alliance, One Body in Christ, by Ian Randall & David Hilborn.
| Evangelicalism - Report on EA Member Churches Questionnaire 28 Jul 2006 This article summarises the theological findings of a survey conducted by the Evangelical Alliance in autumn 1998.
| Evangelicalism - 'Rainbow Theology: Grace in Diversity. The Blessing and the Challenge of a Global Church Family' by Rose Dowsett 28 Jul 2006 We contemporary British can be astonishingly insular. Perhaps our island geography has a lot to do with it, so that our mental and attitudinal insularity is a product of our literal (and littoral!) physical context.
| Evangelicalism - 'Regent Square Revisited: Edward Irving, Precursor of the Pentecostal Movement' by David Allen 28 Jul 2006 For a century and more Edward Irving was summarily dismissed as a showman, crank, fanatic, charlatan and heretic. In recent times, however, notable champions of his cause have arisen, his most recent apologist being Graham McFarlane.
| Evangelicalism - 'Evangelicals, Ecumenism and Unity: A Case Study of the Evangelical Alliance' by Ian Randall 28 Jul 2006 When it was formed in 1846 the World's Evangelical Alliance adopted as its motto 'Unum Corpus Sumus in Christo': 'We are One Body in Christ'. Defined as it was by a shared Basis of Faith, the Alliance's unity was undoubtedly conceived in doctrinal and spiritual rather than ecclesiastical terms.
| Evangelicalism - 'Where is the Love? Clarity and Charity in Evangelical Relationships' by John Woods 28 Jul 2006 Evangelicals have often handled their differences by appealing to the dictum: ‘In essentials unity; in non-essentials liberty; in all things charity.’1 Peter Meiderlin probably borrowed this saying from Augustine of Hippo, and a wide range of people from Richard Baxter to George Bush has used it since.
| Evangelicalism - 'Principled Unity or Pragmatic Compromise? The Challenge of Pan-Evangelical Theology' by David Hilborn 28 Jul 2006 In the course of my work as Head of Theology for the Evangelical Alliance UK, I have found the term ‘pan-evangelical’ widely used, but seldom defined. This may be because its meaning seems, at first glance, self-evident. Surely, one might assume, it refers to phenomena which involve Christians from a range of different evangelical traditions and convictions. And indeed, so long as we take the ‘pan’ in 'pan-evangelical' to denote representative diversity rather than literal comprehensiveness, this would be true.
| Evangelicalism - ''Top Ten' Evangelical Thinkers of the 20th Century' by David Hilborn 28 Jul 2006 People all over the place are drawing up lists. Lists of the best and the biggest, the greatest and grandest of the twentieth century. This ‘league table’ approach may be simplistic. It may beg qualifications. But it can be a good discussion-starter, and as a party game it beats charades. So I’ve decided that we evangelicals should have a list of our own.
