Elfed Godding gives a cautious welcome to the Finding a Common Voice consultation

21 June 2010

One of Wales' leading Christian organizations has cautiously welcomed a consultation process between the Church in Wales, the Muslim Council of Wales and a number of other Welsh bodies.

This ongoing process was celebrated at special dinner at Cardiff's City Hall on 16 June.

Finding a Common Voice was launched in November 2007 and 10 events have taken place, facilitating dialogue on a range of faith and social issues. These include the role of women; stereotypes; tackling prejudice in schools; citizenship; community cohesion and environmental challenges.

Elfed Godding, national director of Evangelical Alliance Wales said: "We applaud the aims of this process in seeking to promote social justice. However, we are concerned that Christian distinctives may be air brushed out in a rush towards tolerance.

"I believe it is possible for different religious persuasions to take action for the good of Wales, but not at the expense of pretending that there are no substantial differences between the faiths."
