Welsh Christian leader urges people of Wales to get involved in the General Election.
21 April 2010
Evangelical Alliance Wales is supporting a number of hustings in the build up to the general election, a number of which are being chaired by Jim Stewart, the Alliance's National Assembly Liaison Officer
This organisation represents nearly 60,000 followers in Wales and these events will provide opportunities for Christians to quiz prospective parliamentary candidates.
Elfed Godding, national director of Evangelical Alliance Wales said: "There are a number of marginal constituencies in Wales and it's vital that Christians and people of faith get out and vote in order to articulate the issues that matter most to them.
"Christians in Wales feel deeply about political issues and we want our voice to be heard. Protecting human life, protecting marriage, and protecting freedom of conscience are foundational for creating and maintaining strong families, caring communities and a just society. Our Christian faith compels us to speak and act in defence of all these".
The hustings are as follows:
Monday 26 April: Cardiff Central (Highfields Free Church)
Tuesday 27 April: Bridgend (Brackla Tabernacle)
Tuesday 27 April: Conwy (Capel Salem, Colwyn Bay)
Thursday 29 April: Newport West (Bethel Community Church)
Friday 30 April: Cardiff North (Rhiwbina Baptist Church)
Sunday 2 May: Swansea West (Parklands Church)
Evangelical Alliance Wales is raising three issues for voters to consider during this general election.
Firstly that the new government will ensure that the UK's poorest people will not lose out as it seeks to resolve the nation's colossal debt.
Secondly that the new government will commit itself to social justice. Wealth creation and entrepreneurship is to be encouraged so that the whole of society may benefit and not a privileged few.
Thirdly that the new government will ensure that Christians and other people of faith are allowed to express their views and organise themselves without the intrusive intervention of the state.
