A sparking new event for Welsh speakers and learners in Ystrad Mynach.
12 March 2010
A pioneering
event for Welsh speakers and learners has been launched in Ystrad Mynach.
On Monday 8
March the first Noson Gymreig took place at the town’s Siloh Community Centre. In
a cafe style atmosphere, the guests enjoyed an evening of Welsh culture. But
with a difference. This was no mere talking shop but an opportunity to get
reacquainted with classic Welsh hymns and readings.
The
attendees represented a wide range of ages and linguistic ability. Whilst some
had been fluent in Welsh since their earliest days, others were still learning
and a few were taking their first steps in Europe’s oldest surviving language.
Ffion
Williams, Siloh Community Centre’s Development Manager said: “The purpose of
these evenings is to help Welsh speakers of all abilities to reconnect with
Wales’ dynamic Christian heritage. Through stories, song and live music people
will enjoy socialising in Welsh and also learning more about the nation’s
spirituality.”
The Noson
Gymreig will take place once a month and the next one will take place at 8pm on
Monday 12 April. It is hosted by the
Presbyterian Church of Wales and New Wine Cymru. Entrance is free.
If you are
interested in attending the next Noson Gymreig please contact Ffion Williams on
