Evangelical Alliance
Established in 1846, the Evangelical Alliance was Britain’s first ecumenical movement. An umbrella body that embraces different denominations and independent congregations from within the evangelical tradition, the Alliance currently represents a UK constituency of at least 1 million people.
The Alliance’s objectives are threefold:
A Voice
First and foremost, as an umbrella body, the Alliance seeks to be a voice for Christians of different denominations from within the evangelical tradition to society, government and the media.
Networking
Second, the Alliance provides a covering under which Christians from different denominational backgrounds can gather to work together.
Resourcing
Third, the Alliance seeks to provide resources to equip the constituency to be an effective church in the community.
Evangelical Alliance Wales
In 1989 the Alliance embraced a federal form of organisation which resulted in the creation of Evangelical Alliance Wales, with an office based in Cardiff. EA Wales represents Christians from within over twenty denominations in Wales and, uniquely many of Wales’ independent congregations.
The Alliance in Wales comprises of a ‘General Office’ and the ‘Evangelical Churches’ National Assembly Liaison Office’ which focuses specifically on the representation of evangelicals of different denominations to the National Assembly for Wales and Welsh Assembly Government and other public bodies.
