This June marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Scottish Parliament. This is a time for us to reflect on and pray for the relationship between the church and our representatives at Holyrood.

We at the Evangelical Alliance long to see Christians engaging with their MSPs in a productive and loving way, especially through prayer. 1 Timothy 2:1 – 4 states:

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

We want Christians to be known as good new people in every sphere. We believe that the greatest way to show representatives the love of Christ is by praying for them and with them.

For this reason, we are inviting you to pray for your MSP on Sunday, 23 June. We would love to see churches from across Scotland standing in prayer together for our MSPs as we mark this special anniversary of representation in Scotland.

Could your church take five minutes during your service on Sunday, 23 June to lift your MSPs to the Lord in prayer?

We would also encourage you to invite your MSPs to attend your church on 23 June, or to ask them to let you know how you can be praying for them.

Whether they are able to attend or not, letting them know that you are praying for them is a wonderful witness of the love and care God has for them, both in their roles of authority and as individuals.

If your church decides to get involved in the Pray for your MSP Day on Sunday, 23 June, let us know by emailing scotland@eauk.org.

Did you know that you have eight MSPs representing you in Holyrood? One MSP is elected for each of the 73constituencies in Scotland and a further seven MSPs represent each of the eight larger regions that Scotland is divided into. Therefore, no matter where you live in Scotland you have eight MSPs representing you from a range of parties.

The Scottish Parliament provides resources which make it easy for you to find out who your representatives are and how you can contact them.
