  ### Friday 14 November marked the first day of committee stage in the House of Lords, where peers began line-by-line scrutiny of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

 

  Over 957 amendments were tabled ahead of the first day, the most of any bill in the past ten years. Lord Tyrie, a peer supportive of the principle of assisted suicide, said in his opening remarks, ​“What concerns me is that we are now going to try to improve a bill which is demonstrably flawed.”

Further dates for the committee stage are scheduled for Fridays in the lead up to the Christmas recess. The second day was held on Friday 21 November and other dates are planned for 5 and 12 December, although peers are requesting more time to debate the amendments tabled.
