Leyton Orient welcomes 9,000 worshippers

Pentecost Sunday, 27 May 2012, will see 9,000 worshippers gather at Leyton Orient Football Stadium next to the newly completed Olympic Park, to hold a unique, one-off day of prayer and worship specifically for the London Olympics 2012.

The only stadium event of its kind dedicated to praying for the Olympics, the goal is to release the blessing that God wants to bring to the UK through the Games and prepare the spiritual atmosphere to welcome the world to encounter God's love.

Branded 'Lighting the Fire', worship leaders from around the world including Jason Upton, Nick Herbert, Sean Feucht, Godfrey Birtill and Remanente will "light the fire" of God's love over London alongside prophets and prayer leaders such as Rachel Hickson (Heartcry), Elcio Lodos (IHOP London), and Jonathan Oloyede (Global Day of Prayer).

Just as the first Pentecost changed the world forever, so on Pentecost 2012 God wants to release the fire of His love on London, as all its visitors are ignited to burn with passion for Him.

Lighting the Fire at Leyton Orient is part of a wider vision called London's Burning 2012 which was birthed at The Cornerstone church, Leyton, east London.

The church responded to God's call for a worship and prayer initiative to change the spiritual atmosphere of the area so that visitors would have sovereign encounters with the living God and mission would be effective. As project director, Rosy Ashley says: "2012 is an immensely exciting time for London and the UK and we have a commitment to ensure God's love is released on the streets. Already 24/7 prayer and worship nights are preparing the way and we're really excited about all that God has in store for East London and the wider city in 2012."

London's Burning has partnered with Burn 24-7 to hold 30 days of non-stop worship and prayer at the church, starting on 14 July and running throughout the Olympics to cover everything planned in the city during this time. Monthly 'burn' nights of worship and prayer have already started in central and east London in preparation.  London's Burning is also working with Healing on the Streets to send healing teams out to live sites during the Olympics, offering people an encounter with God's healing love.
