For so many people, 2020 has been a year where they’ve suffered loss. The loss of plans that were made for the year, the loss of finance for people’s businesses, and for some, the loss of a loved one. For so many, hope seems distant.

The encouragement for us, however, as we begin to look at the story of Christmas, is that what the world gained when Jesus was born will always triumph and be a comfort for any feeling of loss that we may experience.

What’s more, this hope that was gained when God came into the world in the form of a baby isn’t just for those who lived in Nazareth two thousand years ago. The Bible tells us that His name, Emmanuel, means God with us”.

Even in a time when people are scattered and isolated, God is with us; He is close to us. We can therefore be encouraged that God is with us in difficult times, that God is with us when we suffer loss, that God is with us when everything and everyone feels so distant.

Our hope, therefore, is no longer distant when we put our hope in Jesus. Why not write a list of the different things that you have lost this year, and commit those things to God in prayer, proclaiming that you have hope in Him, that He is a faithful God?

I gymaint o bobl, mae 2020 wedi bod yn flwyddyn o golled. Colli cynlluniau a wnaed ar gyfer y flwyddyn, colli arian i fusnesau pobl ac, i rai, colli anwyliaid. Mae gobaith i gymaint o bobl, yn ymddangos mor bell.

Fodd bynnag, yr anogaeth i ni, wrth inni ddechrau edrych ar stori’r Nadolig, ydy y bydd yr hyn a enillodd y byd pan anwyd Iesu, bob amser yn trechu ac yn gysur i unrhyw deimlad o golled a brofwn. Mwy na hynny, nid rhywbeth ar gyfer y rhai hynny a oedd yn byw yn Nasareth ddwy fil o flynyddoedd yn ôl yn unig ydy’r gobaith hwn a gafwyd pan ddaeth Duw i’r byd ar ffurf baban. Mae’r Beibl yn dweud wrthon ni fod Ei enw, Emaniwel, yn golygu Duw gyda ni”.

Hyd yn oed mewn cyfnod lle mae pobl gymaint ar wahân ac wedi ynysu, mae Duw gyda ni”, mae’n agos aton ni. Cawn felly ein calonogi o wybod fod Duw GYDA NI trwy amseroedd anodd, fod Duw GYDA NI wrth inni ddioddef poen y golled, fod Duw GYDA NI pan fo pawb a phopeth yn ymddangos mor bell ac allan o gyrraedd.

Dydy ein gobaith, felly, ddim yn rhywbeth sy’n bell oddi wrthon ni erbyn hyn, pan rown ni ein gobaith yn Iesu.

Efallai, wedi darllen hwn, yr hoffech lunio rhestr o’r gwahanol bethau a gollwyd ganddoch chi eleni, a’u cyflwyno nhw i Dduw mewn gweddi, gan ddatgan fod eich gobaith ynddo E, a’i fod yn Dduw ffyddlon.
