Interview with Kenny Borthwick

Kenny Borthwick leads Holy Trinity Church in the community of Westerhailes in Edinburgh.

In this video, produced for our Council meeting in February 2015: mission and social class in the UK, Kenny talks about the importance of meeting people where they are at, and reminds us that we need to make the face of God human for people in a way that is relevant and genuine.

Kenny reiterates Jesus' words that first and foremost the gospel is good news for the poor, and we see in the first beatitude that there is something of the kingdom of God to be found in poorer situations –in places of lack and poverty. Kenny shares that the best translation of that first beatitude is in fact 'blessed are those who have the spirit of the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven', and the UK Church would be enriched by remembering that again.
