Prayer day for Middle East

The National Day of Prayer and Evangelical Alliance member Samaritan's Purse are asking Christians to attend a special day of prayer, at Solihull Renewal Centre, for the Middle East.

The event, which takes place on 6 June, has been prompted by recent events in Iraq, with the loss of 500 lives and the capture of Ramadi by IS.

Samaritan's Purse UK executive director Simon Barrington said: "Now more than ever we want to encourage the church to unite in prayer for these internally displaced people, who are facing this crisis to survive on a daily basis."

Pastor Sami Dagher, a senior church leader from the Middle East will be at the event to provide first-hand accounts on the situation experienced by more than one million refugees who have fled IS militants.

Dagher, who was helped Christians in the region for decades, said: "I feel honoured to be able to come to the UK. Iraqis are suffering and desperately need your support and prayers."

Other guests at the event will include Matthew and Sarah Nowery, country directors for Samaritan's Purse in Iraq, Pastor Jonathan Oloyede, convener for the National Day of Prayer and worship leader Lou Fellingham.

Samaritan's Purse has been working in partnership with Pastor Dagher to provide food, shelter and clothing to Iraqi refugees.
