Theresa welcome, tell us about yourself.
I live in Hersham in Surrey with my husband Chris, and our two children, Samuel (11) and Annabel (8), although I grew up in sunny Bournemouth. Chris and I have also been involved in worship and prayer at St Peter’s Anglican Church in West Molesey, and nearby Holy Trinity Brompton church plants.
Faith has been central in my life from a young age. I encountered Jesus and the Holy Spirit at Spring Harvest at the age of six with my sister, and that experience has shaped everything since.
What are your interests and how did they shape your career path?
My catholic parents were part of a Christian charismatic renewal, and that musical and growing faith heritage deeply influenced my family and my career journey.
After studying English Literature in London, I spent a year with Youth for Christ performing music as part of an itinerant rock band in secondary schools, before completing a Master’s in multi-journalism and then working in radio news and in third-sector communications.
Outside of work, I love spending time with friends, singing, playing the piano and going for a run. I also enjoy theatre and drama, good chocolate, travelling, watching amazing films, journaling, exploring London with my children and walking along beaches in the sunshine!
You have extensive experience in media and communications, most recently working for member organisation Jersey Road PR, as a training and development manager, how was your time there?
I’ve loved spending these past five years with Jersey Road agency.
I started out, first as a PR account manager and then went on to train and develop charity leaders, church leaders, and purpose-driven senior spokespeople around the world, to confidently share how their work is changing lives for good. I’ve been privileged to work with over 70 global and national client teams.
I also served as a non-executive director on the trustee board of the amazing Bible translation charity, Biblica Europe, and was recently part of the team working with Jersey Road’s global clients; Come and See Foundation, who back The Chosen, also with YouVersion and the renowned Jesus Film Project.
What has been most rewarding about what you do?
I’ve loved media interview training and crafting messaging for charity leadership teams. We’ve seen hopeful, authentic stories make a real difference in the news and in public conversations.
I’m passionate about Jesus and about helping purpose-driven leaders communicate with confidence, clarity and credibility in the media.
It is incredibly rewarding when ripples of hope spread out and people can see the change.
What do you know of the Evangelical Alliance and what most excites you about joining the staff team?
I love the EA’s historic mission of making Jesus known together, so that everyone in the UK has an opportunity to know Him.
I’m really looking forward to serving with the Evangelical Alliance’s excellent, forward-thinking, passionate and purpose-driven team.
I’m so excited to be ‘good news people’ together!
As the new director of communications and engagement, what do you hope to bring to the role?
I’m excited to serve by helping raise the Evangelical Alliance’s media profile, amplify members’ impact, and grow our digital communications reach.
I’m keen to engage new audiences, explore the opportunities of mission-driven AI and digital communications, and strengthen media advocacy and conversations on key societal issues.
Above all, I want to support the team in speaking confidently as a trusted voice so that more lives are impacted.
And finally, but just as importantly, if you had to choose, what would your first-day theme song be?
Haha! So hard to decide. Can I have two please?
- US. Nashville worship band CAIN — ‘Believe on Jesus’,
- Legendary guitarist, Tom Petty: ‘No I won’t back down.’
Great choices. We’ll see what we can do!
