As the countdown to the Scottish election continues, the past several weeks have been filled with campaigns, announcements, and media coverage. We are committed to being a voice of hope and reason, encouraging Christians to engage first spiritually and then practically. We invite you to join us in a series of prayers, coming before God our Father to seek His wisdom, discernment, compassion, integrity, and truth in love within Scotland’s changing political landscape.
A prayer for our leadership and national unity
Lord, as we look towards the election and reflect on the condition of the nation, we pray that we may come together in unity, with Jesus at the centre as we offer up prayers for leaders, cabinets and committees.
We pray that those entrusted with leadership would be faithful stewards, demonstrating integrity, love, justice, humility and mercy.
We pray leaders, that they would work in a way that is honourable and just, serving all people of this nation including the vulnerable, poor and oppressed.
We pray bold prayers, for our Christian and non-Christian leaders, that they would all, in time, encounter the living God, made known in Jesus. We also pray that anything done in darkness would be swiftly brought into the light.
Father we pray for righteousness to be possessed and demonstrated by our parliament this year.
A prayer for courage and truth
Father God, you are perfect in all your ways. May we continually lift our eyes to you, our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Let us not fear but press on and run the race marked out for us, knowing you are with us.
Please help us to walk in step with your Spirit and align with your will as a nation. We pray that you would enlighten those introducing and voting on policies, and that any plans of evil or harm would not prosper.
We pray truth, peace and the welfare of people would be prioritised above personal interests, and that the laws would bring true freedom to all people in the nation.
Your word says, that “where there is no guidance, a people fall, but in an abundance of counsellors there is safety.” Lord, we pray this would ring true for Scotland.
A prayer for compassion, justice, and the sharing of the gospel
Dear Lord, you are the defender of the weak and you comfort those in need. Help us to reflect these things, as we carry your Spirit. Let us delight in the fact that we can share your word, which is rich and your mercy and goodness with others freely. May we never forget the message of the gospel.
Help us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, and for those who are persecuted, oppressed or destitute. Give us a heart to defend the rights of the poor and those in need .
A prayer for protection, strength, and spiritual resilience
Dear Lord, you are good and your ways are higher than all of our ways. You command us to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us. We recognise that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against powers, principalities and against spiritual wickedness in high places. So Lord, protect those working for goodness, campaigning in this election. May you strengthen and protect them from fiery darts thrown by the enemy.
A prayer for mercy, renewal, and a hope-filled future for Scotland
Heavenly Father, we lift before you, our hopes for the future of Scotland. You are a God of justice, mercy and truth, and we pray these qualities would shape the life of our nation. May Scotland be a place where the vulnerable are protected, compassion triumphs over indifference, and where every person is treated with dignity and care.
We pray for a nation where love reigns, and where there are opportunities for all to flourish.
Where evildoing is recognised and confronted, not overlooked or accepted. Where the vulnerable are protected, especially women and girls, and where there is an end to sexual exploitation.
Where mental health challenges and loneliness are addressed, and every human life is valued and protected from beginning to end.
We pray for freedom from domestic abuse, addiction, and drug and alcohol misuse. We ask for integrity and goodness from those in positions of power, and for strategies that bring real and lasting change.
May this be a nation that speaks up for the oppressed and cultivates a culture that reflects God’s kingdom.
May the church be a strong influence, reflecting Christ’s example in speaking the truth in love.
A prayer of thanksgiving and hope
Dear Lord, we give thanks for the good that has been done in this nation, and for those who have faithfully served others through leadership, law and public service. We thank you for the ways in which wise decisions, just law and compassionate actions have protected lives and brought hope to many. Let your light shine in Scotland Father, and may your goodness be seen in the lives of those who seek to serve others with honesty and humility. Help us to remember your faithfulness in the past as we look towards the future with hope.
We pray that stories of courage, kindness and integrity would increase and that those who serve the public would be encouraged in doing what is right. Lord, would you fill us with hope, that we could speak life over this nation and be a light to our neighbours. Help us to trust that you are working in ways we cannot see.
A prayer for the church to be salt and light in the nation
Lord Jesus, we pray for your church across Scotland. Strengthen and encourage our people so that we may be faithful and compassionate witnesses in our communities. Help us to be a voice of hope and reason, reflecting your truth with humility and love.
Fill your church with the Holy Spirit. Give us renewed wisdom, creativity and courage to serve those around us. Help us to be wise in how we live in the world. Raise up prayerful servants, thoughtful elders and faithful witnesses who seek your kingdom and power above all else.
Help us not only to pray, but to act in obedience and love, wherever you lead us. May your church be united in purpose, standing firm in the faith and shining your light in every part of our nation.
