This guiding document is designed to equip you with clear, evidence-based responses to common claims about prostitution. Most women and children in prostitution are there due to coercion, abuse, addiction and poverty. People shouldn’t be for sale, and sex is not a ‘right’. This seeks to help you advocate for survivors in Scotland to be supported and not criminalised.
We have had thoughtful engagement with the Prostitution (Offences and Support) (Scotland) Bill. It is currently before the Scottish parliament and reflects the ‘End Demand Model’ also recognised as the ‘Nordic Model’, which would:
- Criminalise the purchase of sex.
- Decriminalise those selling sex.
- Provide support for those seeking to exit prostitution.
Four ways to respond
- Pray for MSPs as they consider this bill, and for those affected by sexual exploitation.
- Pray for those with lived experience, that they would find freedom from shame and bondage.
- Share the myth buster resource with your church, small group or community.
- Contact your local MSPs to express support for the bill and urge compassionate action.
