Applications are now open for autumn 2021

Society has been shaken over the past year, revealing that we need leaders who move in the wisdom and power of God. Have you ever considered:

  • How God could use these circumstances to shape our country for good?
  • How you might play your part to lead wherever God has placed you?
  • How Christian public leadership can help you step up for the sake of others?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, and you are in your 20s or 30s, we want to hear from you.

You may have experience in the arts, media, academia, business, education, civil society, politics, healthcare or another sector. You may have been to university or have completed an apprenticeship. You may be a key worker, part of the work-from-home army or have spent time on furlough over the past year. We want to hear from you.

Most important of all, if you are hungry to learn and have a heart to use your influence to lead where God has placed, we want to hear from you.

The Public Leader programme

The Public Leader is a 10-month course which has been developed and delivered by the Evangelical Alliance to equip emerging Christian leaders to make a significant impact in every area of UK public life.

Delivered for the first time in all four nations of the UK from autumn 2021, we help each of our participants grow into their unique roles of leadership as they seek to follow Jesus wherever they are called.

Course content

Course content will vary slightly across each nation of the UK. You can find out more about the course content for each nation on their specific pages below.

However, wherever you take part, the core of the course includes:

  • three weekend retreats (usually Friday evening to Saturday evening) including biblical reflection, practical teaching, prayer and time with senior public leaders;
  • presentations from expert speakers from a range of fields;
  • online teaching and content (including three joint UK wide events);
  • visits to national cultural institutions (coronavirus restrictions permitting);
  • mentoring sessions with an experienced public leader; and
  • access to a growing community of Christian public leaders.
The teaching, mentoring, guidance and fellowship I have enjoyed throughout the process has been a real blessing and privilege to me and has helped me see how God is working in Scotland." – Iain, Crown Office prosecutor and Public Leader Scotland participant

How to apply

Each application is handled by the relevant national team. As a general rule, we interview all applicants before they’re offered a place on the programme.

Standard fee: £600, payable in instalments throughout the year (£500 in Northern Ireland)

Our intent is for these courses to operate with in person events and retreats. If because of circumstances outside of our control these are only able to operate online the cost of the course will be substantially reduced.

A limited number of bursaries are available to help those who need financial help. Please discuss this with us at the interview stage.
