00:01
My mum always brought us up
00:03
with discipline and good morals
00:05
and she brought me up to know our
00:09
Sikh background and we are to follow the
00:12
ten gurus and the Sikh scriptures.
00:16
My name is Balbinder, and this is my story.
00:20
Even as a Sikh, you know, when I had my
00:23
problems or anything, I would go to anybody.
00:26
If they said: "Oh do this - like a lucky charm"
00:31
I would do that but nothing provided peace.
00:35
I started exploring Christianity, it was
00:38
just by accident, it was just a phone call
00:40
to a friend, who I spoke to time-to-time.
00:42
And I was in despair with my older son and
00:46
I was crying on the phone to her, just to
00:48
have a heart-to-heart with her.
00:50
So when I called her, she confessed that
00:52
she had accepted Jesus, in the beginning
00:56
So she said to me: "that if you really want
00:59
help, only one person can help you,
01:03
So she said: "when you put the phone down,
01:05
with all your heart, with faith, pray to him,
01:07
and he will help you."
01:09
So I put the phone down before going to bed
01:12
and I prayed to the Lord and three days later
01:15
I received a Bible from my friend.
01:19
The Holy Spirit, through the Bible, was just
01:21
talking to me. Every little answer or question
01:24
I had in my heart or mind
01:27
That word, that scripture
01:29
would come and speak to me.
01:31
And I was just in awe and amazement that
01:34
this is real, God is talking to me.
01:37
Most of my life I was looking for God,
01:40
as your a young child growing up, you know,
01:43
you wonder why are we here?
01:47
And every time I did pray in my Indian
01:50
scriptures I used to imagine a God and
01:53
just wanted that peace.
01:55
And in my house I had Buddha's,
01:58
just that desire to know God.
02:02
Jesus' forgiveness means life to me.
02:06
He died on the cross for me, a sinner.
02:09
I was a sinner, but before that I did not
02:12
think I was a sinner. God just showed me
02:15
how much of a sinner I am,
02:18
and it just shows me
02:21
the love of God that has poured out
02:24
Jesus on the cross, died for my sins, he
02:27
took all my filth and all my sin upon himself.
02:30
He did not deserve to die but he died for me.
02:34
So it means the life to me.
02:36
Because I had been a Sikh for 50 years plus,
02:39
when I turned to Christianity, my daughter
02:42
she actually sort of retaliated and she
02:45
started going to the gurdwara,
02:46
which she never did before.
02:48
Just to annoy me. It used to upset me,
02:51
then God spoke to me that I
02:53
have to show her love. If I get angry or,
02:57
you know, that's not showing her so I used
02:59
to just say: "ok" but I continued to pray
03:02
for her. And secretly she was reading,
03:05
on her phone, the Bible.
03:09
And the verse that came to
03:11
her was about Nicodemus. Talking to Jesus
03:15
when Jesus said that you have to be
03:17
born again. And she said it would not go
03:21
from the app and it just spoke to her,
03:26
and she was ready to give her life to Jesus.
03:29
I know the true living God now, whom
03:31
I did not know before and its only through
03:34
the Word of God and through the Holy Spirit
03:36
that Jesus has truly touched me, touched
03:39
my heart and I'm a new creation in Jesus Christ.
