00:02
Christmas is a good reminder to us
00:05
where our journey took off, really,
00:07
because we went to a new church,
00:11
we loved what we saw
00:13
and I think that in itself
00:17
brought us to life again.
00:20
My name is Richard.
00:21
[Jayne And Richard] And this is our story.
00:23
I come from a very loving home
00:25
and mum and dad weren't church goers
00:28
but they sent me and my
sister to Sunday school.
00:32
I loved Sunday school
00:34
and I knew I wanted to follow Jesus.
00:38
I've always been in the church
00:40
'cause mum and dad were the vergers.
00:43
Probably didn't really believe in it.
00:45
Went to Sunday to school
00:45
because I had to go to Sunday school.
00:47
I used to play a lot of snooker
at the Conservative Club
00:50
and then this young lady
came in there one night
00:52
and I started chatting her up in the bar
00:54
and her personality was kind,
00:57
loving, caring and then I married Jayne.
01:00
Well, a Christmas project
we got involved with
01:05
because of my daughter, Abby.
01:07
She was part of the choir.
01:09
I was invited to go along
01:11
to 'Let the Bells ring out'
01:14
It was just something about
this chap on the stage,
01:17
I loved the way he spoke
01:19
and I said, "I'd just love to go along
01:21
and hear him talk some time."
01:23
That next Sunday we went down
01:25
and we didn't look back.
01:27
It was just like somebody
had flicked on a switch.
01:30
Something I'd never, ever
experienced in my life.
01:34
And then somebody said to me,
01:36
"why don't you do an Alpha Course?"
01:39
So, yeah, we duly signed up for it
01:41
and it was just like
01:43
my whole world had changed.
01:45
I work at the Port of Felixstowe,
01:47
as a vessel controller.
01:48
The guys at work said to me,
01:49
"what's different about you?
01:51
We can see there's a
difference about you."
01:52
I even took my Bible into work one day
01:54
and talked to people about it
01:57
I haven't read my Bible for so long."
01:59
I said, "well, if you've got
it, get it out and read it!"
02:01
I think you never stop growing
02:04
and you never stop learning
02:06
and even in the last five years
02:10
a lot has happened to us as a family
02:13
but all through that
02:14
I can feel that God's been with me.
02:17
So, Christmas has always
been extra special
02:20
to see all those children,
02:21
to see all those non-Christian families
02:23
to try and get the message across to them
02:25
and you just hope what difference
02:27
you can make to those
children at Christmas.
